Viruses in the treatment of cancer

HE Webb, CEG Smith - The Lancet, 1970 - Elsevier
In the treatment of cancer, injection with viruses may have a beneficial effect. Possible
mechanisms of action include direct cytolysis by virus multiplication, immunological cytolysis
by both cell-mediated and humoral responses to" budding" viruses which incorporate cell
membrane into their coat and confer virus antigen determinants on the surface of infected
cells, and interference and the production of interferon by viruses.
